Gain root access and download LINK2SD. use it to uninstall all bloatware and force-disable ('freeze') all google services that can't be uninstalled. freeze google play services and for every app that sends a "this app won't work without Google Play Services", freeze/uninstall that app and install a FOSS alternative.
imo the best alternatives to basic apps like the dialer, calendar, SMS, etc are the "Simple" ones (Simple Calendar, Simple SMS, etc) they are made by a Slovakian team and can be found on F-Droid (the FOSS Play store alternative). they are super lightweight and minimal
if you want what i call a 'lobotomized phone' (smart phone made dumb) remove the app store (including fdroid), all browsers, use T-UI (terminal launcher, also FOSS) and disable all animations/visual embellishments. that's what i did coming from a flip phone. even better because you can control the bloat, surveillance and nggerlicious shit moreso than with a flip phone

im still experimenting to see if the background google services (com.google.android.overlay.*, com.google.android.documentsui.*, Android Services Library, etc) can be force-disabled without breaking the system

learned first hand how gay the newer android versions are - can't even use wifi without google play services enabled on stock android. just gonna install CalyxOS at this point

I've been using a Pixel 4A 5G with CalyxOS for 2 years now and the transition from LineageOS was piss easy. It's basically just an installer.
Prior to that I used an LG V20 with LOS 17.1 and it would overheat & green screen sometimes repeatedly upon boot if you were using a heavy app like OsmAnd Maps navi. LOS is decent but it's always one step behind with security updates and the bootloader being perpetually unlocked is a bother also.
I wanna try out this lobotomized phone idea. I still have a cardphone with a 2-colour LCD which is decent. Would like a faraday case for it.
