ive been lifting for the last... 4 years..? honing my body, becoming stronger, and yet i have lost my original goal. i began lifting for vanity; an idiotic decision. i just wanted to be *bigger*. why?: insecurity, of course. however, i no longer have the same insecurities i did then, which on one hand is good, on the other: bad. i no longer have the motivation (and drive (i recognize they are unique)) to drag myself to the gym and become stronger due to this shift.
this leads me to my main questions:
]=>should i even continue lifting?
]=>if so, how can i maintain a level of drive with no clear goal?
i realize that the answers to these questions often come from the self, but i have been contemplating on them for so long that i have lost sight of what i was even asking in the first place.
i would also like to hear if anyone has had (/is having) a similar experience.

demons always try to attack thru vanity, but one thing that has helped me is making the decision to focus on mental/spiritual strength and putting physical strength second (it'll increase as you increase mental strength automatically so you don't really have to even think about it ever) - brutally torture yourself with reps and sets and make passing that mental pain threshold your goal, fuck what anyone says about overtraining, do pullups until failure every day who cares, it doesn't matter when brutal mentality / killer instinct is the main goal

I will say this is easier when you work out alone as opposed to a gym. at least personally Ive never been able to fully shut out the awareness that other people can see me, so I got some gear and just do it in a dark room alone

buying gear isnt financially possible for me at the moment, though i do very much agree. the few times i have lifted alone were much more intense. i really like your mindset when it comes to hardening the mind even before the body, i will try it. i am tired of being weak minded.

there's always weighted calisthenics which would cost less to set up than a rack+barbell+bench and easier to jerry rig together. my ghetto setup was technically free, i got shitty dip bars from a friend and a pull up bar from the trash and fill my backpack with power tools for weight lol. thats just an idea for the future tho, you can definitely apply the mindset to gym setup

you can get pretty successful with creative thinking & minimal financing. i do prison benchwork on a futon and pullups on the lip of the loft in my room

while i agree this is possible for me to achieve, and probably does you alot of good, i personally dont want to focus on calisthenics. weighted calisthenics are more attractive to me, but still: i prefer just the iron. this would mos def be the way to go if i was unable to/ didnt want to afford a gym membership.

how well has this worked out for you? genuine question. i cant see myself making any considerable strength gains going the taxi driver route.

irh's size change from when he started to now is more than most lifters i know
but yeah you cant go wrong with either iron or calis if you approach it correctly
