General fasting related discussion. Started fasting about 2 hours ago. Going for 32 hours. What was the longest time you've spent fasting?

Post 4238 When I was trying out the prolonged fasting (for health reasons, not weight loss) the longest i did was 36hrs (I'm fairly thin) but I found that what I eat affects my gut way more than when I eat. Minimizing antinutrients, eating within my latitude and Fasting in the spiritual sense has helped me a lot more. But if we're talking just pure weight loss that's a different story; in that case prolonged fasting is great for cutting cravings, knowing when you're actually hungry

I'm not personally interested in the weightloss aspect, although I am back to doing daily 18/6 intermittent fasts. I should have never stopped I feel so much better overall when I do them.

Post 4238:4248 Usually I mix and watch myself. Used to be big into the fasting situation, until fatigue. Now not so much.

tried fasting for a week. managed 3 days. headache got so bad i couldnt sleep. drank milk and egg and instantly went away. if you don't have fat you will die. there's no reason to fast besides death. your body naturally knows how to cleanse itself as long as you eat clean and natural food. the 'mental clarity' is from burning your stored fat. so eat more raw fat.

I do intermittent fasting just because it fits my life style well. I don't think fasting is necessary but it can be done under general asceticism.

I think what's more valuable than fasting is really hard labor- not even physical exercise, it ought to be something productive outside of the body. Remove yourself from a solipsistic mind-body connection and you can channel hunger into energy. Construction, digging ditches, farm work, moving carts of vegetables-- care for the body ought to ultimately serve care for the world. Don't get me wrong, fasting in summer is pretty much a natural tendency. Appetite is suppressed in the heat, you can get away with drinking a quart of milk for lunch and feel refreshed. I bring up the importance of also changing where you look, from yourself to the battle, because it's not you that must be dominated or challenged. It's the carts of oranges, the grocery bags, the wheelbarrow full of horse shit. Pick your battle and don't make it another round against yourself.

Post 4238:4966 Agree with this. Hunger is easier to beat when you busy yourself, even if you're working hard and generating hunger - you can learn to channel your appetite with discipline so that you're not distracted by your stomach's complaints. When lockdown started I began fasting 1-2 full days a week - always on days I wasn't exercising. There's no use in working out and not eating; you work out to develop muscle, not for arbitrary strain. From having tried it on days working from home VS labouring, it is far harder to fast while being at home than being out and working imo, just cos you've always got access to food at home and sometimes you're just eager for a distraction. I work out more now and am far less physically active during the day for the time being, so the most fasting I do now is waiting til lunchtime to eat on most weekends; so skipping breakfast, exercising and then eating. It's not a perfect system. Waking up is harder without the routine and instant energy you get from breakfast.
